Luxury Cinema Experiences with Odeon Luxe

With advances in home technology, and the increasing amount of various streaming services available to us, relaxing with snacks and a movie has never been easier. We have the ability stay in our own comfortable surroundings (usually while wearing jammies) and are spoilt with a huge choice of viewing entertainment, especially when companies such as Sky have movies in their store, sometimes within a couple of months of their big screen debuts – what is there to encourage cinema trips anymore?

Now don’t get me wrong, I love the whole cinema experience, but finding the time and money for regular date nights can be a bit of a struggle - I’m often guilty of the lazy home viewing option, with snoozes on the couch a very real possibility! Nevertheless, when Odeon contacted me with an invite to their official gala launch night of the new Odeon Luxe at Glasgow Quay, I was reminded of the joy a day, or night, at the pictures can bring, and felt a little guilty that I’ve been so unwilling to make any sort of effort recently. So, with a renewed determination to enjoy life more, I sorted childcare, dolled myself up and dragged my lovely ‘work wife’ along for a post lab date night of cinematic luxury!

It’s important to remember that cinemas are not necessarily just for loved up couples, they provide great entertainment for a girl’s night or family day out too! Bearing this in mind, I was pleased to see Logan’s favourite food outlet serving us delicious treats upon our arrival – he really goes mad for anything associated with Costa Coffee, so I already know he’d love a trip here at some point in the future, making sure to fill his boots before the next great superhero/lego/comedy release!

After sampling all the festive drinks and cakes on offer, we made sure to grab some complimentary prosecco and popcorn, before being guided into the newly refurbished 'isense' screen directly opposite the foyer. Not only does this screen benefit from upgraded speakers, enlarged screens and fully reclining seats with triple legroom (which are available in every one of the 12 screens on site), but it also boasts the ultimate ‘ultra-high-definition cinema experience, with 4K projection and Dolby ATMOS sound’.

Not being a hugely tech-savvie individual, I have no idea how good those specs are, but I can tell you that it’s been a while since I’ve been this impressed with a cinema outing! The overall level of complete comfort obtained from the new seats, coupled with improved cinema lighting and picture quality, meant that we were treated to an amazingly immersive experience which would be difficult to match in any other regular cinema. I’m usually terrible for fidgeting throughout a movie, but reclining lazily left me feeling as if I was floating on a cloud, and I didn’t have to readjust myself once throughout the whole screening!

The film selected for our viewing pleasure was an advanced showing of the highly anticipated ‘Wonder’, starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson. Despite this being a beautifully told story about how a remarkable individual overcomes personal difficulties, it was difficult to picture how well the improvements to sound and picture quality would benefit action movies, with the large amounts of cgi and special effects common to the genre. I can only imagine that the upcoming Star Wars film will look absolutely phenomenal in comparison and provide an even greater luxury cinema experience to wow the masses!

After being able to take part in such a fantastic evening, I’m a little disappointed that Glasgow is not within easy travelling distance of my home for spontaneous family trips, or date nights with Paul - we are, however, lucky that Scotland is home to not one, but three of the four Odeon Luxe cinemas in the UK. With this in mind, I’d be more than happy to head into Edinburgh, or even East Kilbride, to experience this cinematic luxury again, and (after checking out the ticket prices online) I feel that I'd finally be receiving the quality I'd expect for the money that I'm paying to visit a cinema!

* I was invited along to try out the new Odeon Luxe free of charge, but all opinions expressed within this blog post are entirely my own.
