Highlights From London

I love London! I was there this weekend and, although I wish we lived closer, I’m glad I can’t visit all the time - staying just seems more special that way. My Mum treated me to a long weekend away, originally so that I could have my second wedding dress fitting, but I’m glad we had the time to spend on other great things too. Being a bit of a shortie (4’11”), I struggled to find wedding dresses that suited me, everything looked like I was trying to play dress up. When I found Cutting Edge Brides on Facebook, I knew they would be perfect – their location also gives me a great excuse to visit London more often!

Once the fitting was out of the way, I insisted that we MUST visit Camden! My Mum protested that she wasn’t a fan of markets, but I’d been before and I think the whole atmosphere is fantastic. The street food is second to none and the individual shops and stalls often sell unique little trinkets that you can’t find anywhere else.

Arriving at midday, the streets were mobbed - tourists like us, but with no sense of urgency or road safety! I knew we needed food first, so I attempted to find all the stalls along the canal with their moped style seats – gone. At first I thought I’d gotten lost, but it turns out that whole area is now under renovation and all the food stalls have been moved into a square further into the market. Nevertheless, we eventually found our way and were drawn towards the stall belonging to ‘The Mac Factory, London’. Serving fresh Macaroni all day long, we sampled some straight out of the pot and then ordered two servings of their ‘Nostalgic’ style, sprinkled with their signature ‘Parmesan and Thyme Crumble’. If ever you get the chance, you should definitely grab yourself a portion, or book them for a special occasion as they also do events catering!

After we’d wandered round a few more shops and stalls, we decided Oxford Street was calling to us – my Mum wanted M&S and I was desperate to see Lush, with its three floors of awesomeness! I hear bloggers talking about it all the time, and I know they have loads of exclusive products, so I needed to see what all the fuss was about. Straight in the door and I notice they have so much more of each product, they even have bags of bath bombs, BAGS!! It felt like Christmas, I couldn’t stop doing excited little dances every time I saw something new. I didn’t get many pictures because the store was so busy, but I did manage to get a snap of my Mum enjoying a hand massage – this is the woman who ‘hates’ Lush, but I bet she can guess what she’s getting for every birthday now!

Another notable visit over our weekend was a meal in the local Byron burger restaurant next to Earl’s Court tube station. After hearing so many bloggers raving about the new Glasgow opening, I had to give it a try while I had the opportunity. Being less than five minutes from our hotel, we thought it was a perfect spot for lunch after checking out on the Sunday – this way, we didn’t have to go far with our luggage. I also mentioned it to a good friend who lived locally and she was keen to come and join us. Not really being in the burger mood, I had some nachos, chased down with a side of mac n’ cheese and a side of sweet potato fries – a little odd at first, but better lathered in generous helpings of ketchup. Steph (my local friend) was in the burger mood and really enjoyed hers, although she was disappointed they forgot to include her onion ring – she described it as ‘a happy tasting burger with sadness’. Despite this, I would definitely go back and I’m looking forward to visiting either the Glasgow or Edinburgh branches in the near future.

There were hundreds of other things I would have loved to see and do this weekend, but London is huge and you can only do so much in one weekend. We were planning on visiting for our honeymoon, but Paul has now taken complete control and our destination remains a secret to me. At least I still have another dress fitting to look forward to!
Have any of you guys done anything exciting London? Perhaps you have suggestions for my next visit?
